Bill’s unique genius is taking startups to a successful exit strategy.  He excels at helping companies get over the plateau’s that can make them stagnant or hold them back from reaching their potential.  And it is these common areas where businesses struggle that I’m excited for Bill to share his wisdom on how to breakthrough and reach new heights as a business.

This week’s Misfit Entrepreneur is Dr. Patrick Kilcar. Dr. Kilcar has been the Director of Georgetown University’s Center for Personal Development since 1999. His research studies the intersection of risk-taking behavior and emotional intelligence. He is a master trainer in emotional intelligence, certifying professionals to use the EQ-i2.0 (the most valid and reliable self-assessment of emotional intelligence) to assess and evaluate the social and emotional competencies of individuals in a variety of professional venues.

Dr. Kilcar’s work has been instrumental in helping people achieve higher success by understanding and tapping into the power of increasing their EQ. His latest book is called “Leading an Emotionally Intelligence Life: Expanding Your EI to Make Courageous Decisions and Transform Your Life” and I could not think of a better, more important topic to help entrepreneurs than improving in the area of emotional intelligence, so I’m excited to get into it.

This week’s Misfit Entrepreneur is Kelsi Sheren. Kelsi is an entrepreneur, author, podcast, host, coach and speaker. Even more importantly Kelsi is a decorated veteran who served on the front lines in Afghanistan.

She founded Brass and Unity, a boutique jewelry and apparel brand that incorporates elements of brass from weaponry into its products. The company donates 20% of net profits to help rehabilitate and soldiers and first responders. Kelsi’s story and companies have been featured everywhere from ELLE, Fashion Magazine, Forbes, GMA, the Today Show, Fox, CNN, and even ELLEN.

Kelsi’s story is inspiring not just to those who learn of it, but for her as overcoming her own challenges after years of war gave her the strength and mission to help veterans overcome the side effect of war such as PTSD, homelessness, and preventing suicide. And she is fierce in her efforts.

I asked her to come on to share her journey, entrepreneur lessons learned, and how to overcome the biggest challenges that life brings your way.

This week’s Misfit Entrepreneur is Chris Wright. We’ve had multiple guests on the show talking about the growth of AI and the benefits of it, but what about the potential downsides? In a world where AI can create videos and deep fakes of anyone in seconds or access individual’s data from social platforms and other sources and use it: how do you protect yourself and keep control of your data, personal information, and other valuable online assets? Those are exactly the questions I had been asking myself when I was introduced to Chris Wright.

Chris is a former US Army attack helicopter pilot, entrepreneur, and founder of the AI Trust Council. The AITC is building a pro-human social networking platform that helps users distinguish real from fake online. Its goal is to give users control of their meta data to create passive income and provide a mechanism to help steer the direction of A.I.

The council aims to ensure humans are empowered with the tools necessary to establish trust to build a pro human future. I think this is one of the most important topics for entrepreneurs to understand and find opportunity in over the next decade and Chris is on the bleeding edge, so I asked him on the discuss how we can not only protect ourselves, but also maximize our potential in the age of AI.

Many years ago, I introduced a new format that alongside our regular episodes called “Lessons for Hannah.” Hannah is my daughter and one of the main inspirations for the Misfit Entrepreneur. I wanted to have a place where she could go and learn from her daddy and his Misfit friends throughout her life….even after I am gone. If you haven’t listened to the first episode of "Lessons for Hannah," I urge you to as it gives some more background and tells the amazing story of how Hannah came to be in our lives.

Lessons for Hannah are short, very useful, and sometimes comical lessons, that I want to share with you and give to Hannah to help in your lives. Because I want Hannah to have these for her life, I’m going to speak as though I am talking directly to her. These episodes are a lot of fun and if you think there is a lesson that we should include in these episodes, please don’t hesitate to send it over to us at support@misfitentrepreneur.com. We’d love to share it.

This week’s Misfit Entrepreneur is Mark Wills. Mark is a very interesting entrepreneur and like my daughter, Hannah, an adoptee. But his journey was not as easy – something I look forward to him sharing and us talking about today. Mark is the founder of a unique business called the Loan Signing System that has become a top 1% online course in America teaching people how to not only become a notary, but how to succeed in making it a side hustle or full-time career.

He is a best-selling author and has been featured everywhere from CNBC to Entrepreneur, and Forbes - even the Today Show.

I admit, the first time I heard about a guy who created a business in the notary space, I wasn’t that excited, but then I met Mark and realized how genius it was for him to create a massive business in this niche. Mark has not only created a 7-figure business, but is helping countless others build 6 and 7 figure businesses in the much looked over niche of notarization.

This week’s Misfit Entrepreneur is John St. Pierre. John is a 25+ year entrepreneur veteran who scaled 2 companies to over $50M in global revenues. John started while still in college as a franchisee for College Pro Painters and went on to co-found Legacy Global Sports, BrandPoint Services, and Rhombus Group.

Legacy Global Sports rapidly reached $50M+ in global revenues and BrandPoint Services is now a $100M+ enterprise, His role as the majority owner and chairperson of Rhombus Group, a holding company comprising several small businesses, has allowed him to inspire other entrepreneurs and help them achieve their goals. He is the author of "The $100M Journey," where he shares the 7 key principles for entrepreneurial success.

But it wasn’t all sunshine and lollipops as most entrepreneur journeys aren’t. In fact, John was fired from a company he spent over 15 years building. And then had to start from square one. He learned a lot of lessons along the way which partly inspired his book and it’s those lessons learned over his 25+ year career that I am excited for him to share with you today.

This week’s Misfit Entrepreneurs are Jim Sherman and Catalina Daniels. Jim and Catalina, studied entrepreneurship as classmates at Harvard Business School. Years later, after successfully founding and exiting several companies, and as angel investors in start-ups, they were surprised to realize that their experiences greatly differed from what they had been taught in school. Harvard provided a world-class education in the basics. But there was so much they learned the hard way—working in the trenches—that, looking back, they wished they’d known before starting up.

So, they decided to help entrepreneurs on their journey by giving them to real world wisdom and advice needed to succeed in their best-selling book, “Smart Startups.” In the book they interview 18 Harvard graduates and entrepreneurs about their experiences founding companies such as Blue Apron, Rent the Runway, Gilt, and AdoreMe, learning what they discovered along the way and what they wish they had known beforehand.

And because of their work and the way it has helped entrepreneurs, they have been featured in Fast Company, CNBC, Forbes, Bloomberg, Morning Brew, Entrepreneur Magazine just to name a few.

Jim and Catalina, alone have an incredible amount of wisdom and experience in entrepreneurship to share, but with everything they learned in writing this book, I think I’m going to be pressed for time in getting all of the incredible information out of them in just one episode

This week’s Misfit Entrepreneur is Pete Reese. Pete is the President of Reelvest Properties, a land development and investment company. With nearly two decades of real estate experience as a broker and investor, Pete has successfully purchased and sold hundreds of pieces of real estate for a profit over the years for himself and on behalf of his clients. He did $3.5 Million in Revenue in 2022 with his land flipping and development business, and did over $10 Million in 2023.

When I learned about what Pete was doing, I had to have him on. He has found a niche in “land flipping.” It is a fascinating way to create income and earn a living that Pete has been teaching others to do for years. I wanted to have him on to explain the concept and how it works compared to other types of real estate investing.
